Your First K-Beauty Routine: How to Start Without Feeling Overwhelmed
Teilen
You're staring at your screen. You've Googled "K-Beauty." Now you're seeing hundreds of products. Cleanser. Essence. Ampoule. You don't know what they are. You don't know where to start.
That's okay. Almost everyone feels that way.
K-Beauty (Korean skincare) is a skincare approach based on a few well-matched steps in the right order—not on as many products as possible.
Three terms you need to know
K-Beauty has its own vocabulary. Most of it you probably don't know yet. Here are the three most important ones—briefly explained.
- Cleanser. This is your cleansing product. It washes dirt and sebum from your skin.
- Essence. You might not be familiar with this from the Western world. An essence is a light, watery liquid. You apply it after cleansing. It prepares your skin for the next steps. Think of it like a first glass of water in the morning—it wakes up your skin.
- SPF. This stands for sun protection factor. You need this step every morning. It is the most important step in a routine.
Your shopping list: Four products are enough
- A mild cleanser. Wash your face with it morning and evening. Pay attention to the pH value. It should be a low-pH cleanser.
- An essence. Apply it directly after washing. It prepares your skin.
- A serum/ampoule. This is a product with a specific active ingredient. For example, Centella Asiatica—a plant extract that can soothe the skin.
- A cream. It completes your routine. It keeps moisture in your skin.
In the morning, a fifth product is added: SPF. You only need this during the day, not at night.
The most common mistake when starting
Too much at once—but not in the way you might think. If you start with a coordinated set, you can immediately begin with all four products. They are already chosen to work together.
The mistake tends to happen later: You have your basic routine, and then an additional product comes along—a new serum, a new ampoule with a special active ingredient, a mask. All at once. And suddenly your skin doesn't know what's going on.
Here's the patience rule: Add new products one at a time, not several simultaneously. Give your skin 2–4 weeks to get used to a new product before adding the next one.
That sounds patient—because it is. But precisely this patience is the difference between a routine that really works and a shelf full of products you never finished using.
How nat and bam takes the guesswork out of it
Precisely because sequence and coordination are so important, we have put together our routines as sets. Each set contains products that are coordinated in their texture, composition, and sequence—for morning and for evening.
You don't have to research which essence goes with which cleanser. You don't have to know if niacinamide and vitamin C work together. We've already thought of that—so you can simply get started.

Common questions about the first K-Beauty routine
How many steps does a K-Beauty routine for beginners need?
Four steps are sufficient: cleanser, essence, serum, and cream. In the morning, SPF is added as a fifth step.
In what order do I apply K-Beauty products?
Always from the lightest to the richest texture: cleanser, then essence, then serum, finally cream. In the morning, SPF follows as the last step.
What is the difference between essence and serum?
An essence is more fluid and prepares the skin to better absorb subsequent products. A serum is more concentrated and contains targeted active ingredients like Centella Asiatica.
How long does it take to see results?
Most people need 2 to 4 weeks for their skin to adjust to a new routine. Individual results may vary.
The most important thing to take away
You don't need ten products to start. You need four—in the right order, with a little patience.
